About Our Flea & Tick Control Service

Indoor and outdoor treatment for the flea and tick species that affect Summit County homes, pets, and hikers.

Summit County's outdoor lifestyle — hiking, camping, trail running, and year-round access to backcountry — puts residents and their pets in frequent contact with tick habitat. The Rocky Mountain Wood Tick and Western Black-legged Tick are both present in Utah and active from early spring through fall. Every trail walk, off-leash dog run, or afternoon in the backyard near brushy areas is a potential tick encounter. Properties that back up to open land, wildlife corridors, or natural vegetation see the highest tick pressure.

Fleas are often introduced by pets that go outdoors or by wildlife passing through the property — squirrels, raccoons, deer mice, and feral cats all carry fleas and deposit eggs in soil, crawl spaces, and yard debris. Once inside, fleas can infest carpets, upholstered furniture, and bedding rapidly. An indoor flea infestation can persist for months without treatment because flea pupae are protected inside moisture-resistant cocoons that survive both vacuuming and topical products applied to pets alone.

Effective flea and tick control requires treating all life stages and all environments simultaneously. We treat the yard — perimeter, lawn edges, vegetation, and shaded areas where ticks quest and fleas develop — and the interior, targeting carpets, pet resting areas, and floor gaps with products that include an insect growth regulator (IGR) to break the breeding cycle. Treating your pet with veterinary-recommended products in parallel gives the fastest and most complete result.

Why Choose Us for Flea & Tick Control

Indoor and outdoor treatment targeting all life stages — the only approach that delivers lasting results.

01

Indoor & Outdoor Treatment

We treat both the yard and the interior in a coordinated plan. Addressing only one environment leaves a reservoir population that will reinvest the treated area within weeks.

02

Tick Habitat Reduction

Tick populations concentrate in leaf litter, tall grass, wood piles, and shaded vegetation edges. We treat these specific zones — not just open lawn — and advise on yard modifications that reduce habitat and host access.

03

Flea Life Cycle Treatment

Interior treatment includes an insect growth regulator (IGR) that prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing into breeding adults. This breaks the reproduction cycle rather than just killing current adults.

04

UDAF Licensed

All technicians hold current Utah Department of Agriculture and Food pest control licenses. Products are applied at label-approved rates with clear re-entry guidelines for families and pets.

05

Pet-Safe Application

Treated areas are safe for pets and children once the application has dried — typically 30-45 minutes. We provide specific re-entry guidance at the time of service and advise on coordinating with your vet's flea prevention program for maximum effectiveness.

Our Flea & Tick Control Process

Property Assessment & Infestation Mapping

We inspect the interior — carpets, pet bedding, furniture, and floor edges — and the exterior — lawn perimeter, vegetation zones, shaded areas, wood piles, and wildlife entry points. This determines the extent of the infestation and which environments need treatment priority.

Indoor & Outdoor Treatment

Interior treatment targets carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture bases, and floor gaps with residual adulticide and IGR. Exterior treatment covers lawn edges, vegetation borders, shaded resting areas, and tick harbourage zones with residual products. Both treatments are applied in the same visit for coordinated results.

Prevention & Follow-Up

A follow-up visit at 2-3 weeks targets any emerging adults from protected pupae that survived the initial treatment. We provide guidance on ongoing prevention — pet treatment products, yard maintenance, wildlife deterrence — to reduce re-infestation risk. If activity persists, we return at no additional charge.

We provide flea and tick treatment throughout Coalville and surrounding Summit County communities including Park City, Heber City, Kamas, Oakley, Wanship, Francis, and Peoa. Properties near trails, open land, and wildlife corridors see the highest flea and tick pressure in Summit County.

"We had a flea problem that started after squirrels got into the crawl space. Summit Shield treated the yard and the inside of the house, and explained that we needed to deal with the wildlife too. Two treatments later and we've been flea-free for over a year."

"We live near a trail and ticks were becoming a real concern for us and our dog. Summit Shield treated the yard perimeter and gave us great advice about where the ticks were coming from. Much more manageable now."

Flea & Tick Control FAQ

Answers to what Summit County homeowners ask most about flea and tick treatment.

The Rocky Mountain Wood Tick is the most common tick species encountered by hikers and pet owners in Summit County and throughout Utah. The Western Black-legged Tick (deer tick) is also present in the region and is the species associated with Lyme disease transmission. Both species are active from early spring through late fall, with peak activity in spring and early summer when adults are questing for hosts.
Wildlife is the most common source of flea introduction in homes without pets. Squirrels, raccoons, opossums, deer mice, and even feral cats can deposit flea eggs in crawl spaces, attics, and around foundation perimeters. Flea larvae develop in the soil and can survive for months. If you've had a wildlife problem or recently moved into a property with a prior flea issue, an infestation can develop even without any pets present.
Pets should be kept out of treated areas until the application has fully dried — typically 30-45 minutes for indoor treatments. For yard treatments, we recommend keeping pets off the lawn for 30 minutes to an hour after application. We'll give you specific guidance at the time of service based on the products used and the areas treated.
For most flea infestations, treating both the yard and the interior is necessary for complete elimination. Fleas develop through four life stages — egg, larva, pupa, and adult — and the majority of a flea population lives in carpet, furniture, and yard debris rather than on the pet. Treating only one environment allows the other population to reinvest the treated area.
Most flea infestations require two treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart. The first treatment kills adult fleas and larvae. Flea pupae are protected inside their cocoons and can survive initial treatment, emerging as adults 1-3 weeks later. The second treatment targets this new adult population before it can reproduce. Tick treatments are typically a single application with seasonal re-treatment as needed.
